Evidence of early liqueurs predates the first millennium, but it wasn’t until 1510 that Benedictine monks created the cordial. In the 1600s, the Dutch began commercializing cordial production and their influence continues to be felt in the American cordial market today. The invention of the column still in the early 19th century enabled the production of a nearly neutral spirit, the base of most modern cordials and liqueurs. Since entering the U.S. market, DeKuyper has quickly become one of a cordial brand that bartenders trust and defines the American cordial market today. The brand offers a wide variety of taste combinations and “one pour” solutions for professionals and home bartenders.
Part of the reason DeKuyper cordials are so good is that we have been making them as a labor of love for generations. In fact, the word cordial derives from the Medieval Latin cordiālis, meaning of or for the heart.
CORDIALS
Cordials are amongst the oldest spirits in the world. They're a key ingredient in many of the most popular shots and cocktails. The terms “cordial” and “liqueur” are often used interchangeably and both refer to the same type of product. Cordials and liqueurs are defined as products obtained by mixing or redistilling distilled spirits with or over fruits, plants, or pure juices, or other natural flavoring materials, or with extracts derived from infusions, percolation, or maceration of such materials, and containing sugar not less than 2.5 percent by weight of the finished product. This standard varies by country based on cultural traditions.
FLAVORS
Popular shots ButterShots and Hot!, luscious fruit flavors Peachtree, Amaretto, Blue Curacao and Razzmatazz are bartender favorites. These taste sensations provide the flavoring for celebrated drinks, including the Margarita, Cosmopolitan, Long Island Ice Tea, Fuzzy Naval, Buttery Nipple and Sex on the Beach. Adding to the line, is DeKuyper PUCKER, our original sweet and sour family of mixers that includes Sour Apple, Watermelon and Berry Fusion. For chocolate lovers, we offer John DeKuyper & Sons Crave Chocolate Liqueurs in Chocolate Cherry, Chocolate Mint and Chocolate Chili flavors. And for an intense adventure in flavor, consider our Mixologist Collection featuring the bold tastes of muddled mint, ginger and blood orange. Intense flavors. Intense fun!
